The class is an introduction to soils and land use. The class has two lectures and one laboratory.

Grades will be based on your percentage of possible points as follows:
Homework and Lab. Assignment 200 Exam 1 250 Design Project 300 Exam 2 250 quizzes 10point each variable number Total Points 1000 plus 10 * number of quizzes
Design project 1. Choose an area with at least 5 soil types 2. Determine the possible uses of the land area. School, airport, housing development, shopping mall, farming 3. Construct at last 10 suitability maps, using soil maps
For Example maps of crop yield maps of range productivity maps of woodland suitability maps of building site development maps of sanitary facilities maps of water management
4. Construct a recommendation land use map showing what use could be made of the area. The final map for a school would show the best location for the buildings, the area that should be used for playgrounds, the area that should be used for parking lot, the area to use for farming demonstration site. Describe in detail the overall development plan.
