Job Description Teaching Assistant for Soil 456 Irrigation and Drainage Agronomy and Horticulture Department New Mexico State University
General Duties.
The teaching assistant will help the instructor teach the laboratory section of the class. This means presenting lectures about the laboratory material and helping the students to conduct the laboratory exercise The TA will grade the laboratory assignments and be available during fixed time periods to help the students with the laboratory assignments. The Laboratory portion of the class meets for 3 hr. each week and the laboratory exercises include both the use of computer, field trips and laboratory measurements. The laboratories will change with time but any changes will be posted before the class starts in the spring semester. The class is taught every other year in the spring.
Besides the general duties above, the instructor may assign other duties. The class size is usually between 8 and 10 students.
Preferred background
Knowledge of soil plant water relationships, knowledge about irrigation systems, and water use of crops. This knowledge is usually acquired in an undergraduate degree in soil, geology, agriculture engineering, hydrology, environmental science or other related disciplines.
