RADIATION SAFETY

The issue of radiation safety cannot be stressed too much. As stated before, in order to operate the neutron probe a radiation detection badge must be obtained from the Atomic Energy Commission through your state nuclear licensing and regulatory agencies or the federal government and worn each and every time the neutron probe is used or moved from one location to another. Also, to transport the neutron probe in a vehicle, you must have a permit which is available from regulatory agencies. New Mexico State University has a Safety Officer to assist with the necessary requirements for campus users [(505)646-3327]. A wipe test to check for leaks should be scheduled and completed at least every three months.
