Construction of a Web page on the main frame.

Ted Sammis

1. Go to the automatic generation file on the main frame that will make and load your first web page for you. click here

2. Select option 3 to create your home page.

3. If your home page has been created recreating it will only reset the access permission but will not destroy the home page called index.html. .The internet address contains a file structure and given no file name will default to index.html or index.htm. The html ending supports more hypertext commands then the htm ending of the file name. However, the computers will look for either ending.

4. When naming a file or picture the Unix system look for upper and lower case letters. A file called index.html is not the same as INDEX.HTML or index.HTML. Use lower case and be consistent. The same applies for a picture names, example sample.jpg is not the same as SAMPLE.JPGD . Also do not use anything but normal letters or underscore character when creating a file name.

5. After you have created your index.html file is can be edited using Netscape gold. editor. Your must down load your file to your local computer to edit it. To do this start up the ftp server and move the index.html file from the main frame to the A: drive of your computer.

6. To sign on to the ftp server insert your user id and password you for email. You may call the profile name anything you want. Fill out the ftp profile and hit OK.

7. When you sign on it should look like this

8. Hit public_html directory to move to that directory

9. To move the index.html file to your directory click on the file and hit the arrow point left. Make sure you have moved to the A directory. The file will now be on your A drive and you can edit it using the editor in Netscape. You must move any files that are linked to the index.html file to the A drive such a ani_nscape.gif which I have inserted into my home page.

10 You can now edit the home page

11. To Change the Background go to properties and document. If background image need to be changed, replace the file name with another under background image and click on use image. I removed the background image. Also I set the background to be color white by clicking on the background. Other commands as shown on the editor and include linking to other html file using the chain symbol. Inserting pictures using the picture symbol. Increasing the size of letters using the A+ symbol. Changing color using the color symbol. Putting material in a table use the table format.

12. Picture of document properties.

13. Copy files back to main frame using ftp and then start a telnet secession and change the access for all new files you have created by following the instructions given at this url. Open up Netscape and look at your home page.
