NuMex CASPER
|
Developed from crosses between short, intermediate, and long day varieties. Released in 1993. NuMex CASPER is an intermediate variety for spring-seeding or transplanting. When transplanted it matures in late June. It is typically "White Sweet Spanish" in its bulb shape, firmness, and other characteristics. Shape is a medium to deep globe. In the initial release of breeder's seed, NuMex CASPER produced an undesirable percentage of elongated (torpedo) bulbs, most obvious when bulb size was relatively small. In our stock seed maintenance program we have rogued out most of these bulbs, and the latest production of foundation seed in 1995 is nearly free of this problem. White color quality is excellent. NuMex CASPER has excellent tolerance to pink root.
