Developed from crosses between several intermediate and long day varieties. Released in 1994. NuMex JOSE FERNANDEZ is an intermediate variety for spring-seeding or transplanting. When transplanted, it matures in late June. It is typically "Sweet Spanish" in its bulb shape, firmness, and other characteristics. Shape is a medium depth globe. Firmness is not as good as for NuMex BOLO. NuMex JOSE FERNANDEZ has consistently been one of the highest yielding of any of the intermediate varieties, whether grown in pink root free or infested land. From transplants, it can produce very large bulbs. NuMex JOSE FERNANDEZ has an excellent tolerance to pink root.
