NuMex LUNA
|
Developed from a cross between NuMex BR 1 and BEN SHEMEN. Released in 1996. Suggested for planting October 1 to 10 for harvest June 15 to 25. The bulb characteristics are intermediate between the two parents and similar to those of NuMex VADO. NuMex is a tough onion and should have good handling characteristics. When well grown, it produces high yields and large bulbs, but yields and bulb size are usually not as high as those of NuMex STARLITE. NuMex LUNA was released to extend the harvest and marketing season for fall seeded onions into the latter half of June. It closely follows NuMex VADO. From transplants NuMex LUNA matures later than CIMMARRON., and about the same time as NuMex JOSE FERNANDEZ. In comparisons between NuMex LUNA and NuMex JOSE FERNANDEZ transplants, NuMex JOSE FERNANDEZ has usually had the higher yields, NuMex LUNA has a very good tolerance to pink root.
