NuMex MESA
  • Plant September 20 to 25
  • May 25 to June 5 maturity
  • More scale then SUNLITE
  • Makes large bulbs
  • Very deep GRANO type

Derived from cross between NuMex BR 1 and Buffalo. Released in 1996. Bolting resistance is the same as Buffalo. Bulb characteristics are intermediate between the two parents. NuMex MESA can be planted at least as early as September 20 at Las Cruces, for harvest about June 1. It has excellent pink root tolerance. Scale retention is better than for the 'grano' types like NuMex SUNLITE and NuMex BR1. NuMex MESA should be planted on time and provided optimum conditions for growth during the winter, to produce high yields of large onions.
