NuMex SUNDIAL
  • Plant October 10 to 15
  • Mature July 1 to 10
  • Potential for high yields and large bulbs
  • Firm, tough bulbs
  • Tends to have large necks
  • High density planting reduces neck size

Developed by selection from BEN SHEMEN. Released in 1986. NuMex SUNDIAL is a hard, tough onion. Its handling characteristics have generally been rated high. From fall-seeding it has had excellent yields. When spring-seeded its yields are somewhat less than other spring-seeded intermediates. When spring-seeded it tends to produce a small to medium, very hard, durable onion. Fall-seeded NuMex SUNDIAL has very large tops and tends to have large necks. The best quality bulbs have generally come from fields with higher planting density (closer spacing), which tends to control the neck diameter. Even with high density plantings, some fields have produced a high percentage of jumbo onions. NuMex SUNDIAL was released to provide for harvest in early July from fall-seeding. It has excellence tolerance to pink root.
